Stavros: The neighborhood

Stavros is a seaside village located 17 km north east of Chania, on the northern end of the Akrotiri peninsula.

At the foot of the camel shape mountain that rises opposite the village port, Anthony Quin danced the famous Sirtaki, in the 1964 film “Zorba the Greek”.

Both beaches contribute to this development. The main beach is located east of the village, at the foot of the mountain and near the picturesque harbor area. Enclosed in a circular bay is totally isolated from the winds, creating amazing scenery that is worth seeing.

The bay, reminiscent lagoon has white sand and turquoise shallow waters. The contrast of the wild mountain landscape with the beautiful calm beach makes Stavros a unique place for swimming. The second beach of Stavros is located northwest of the village in just 200 meters west of the central beach and it is quite and less crowded.
